Received unit on 5.13.20 within 48 hours visual and audible alarms triggered relative to the oven. The unit severely overheated, and once manually shutoff, the unit restarted itself. The unit had to be shut off at the circuit breaker. Contacted the authorized repair center and their technician attempted to run a diagnostic check and the unit did not registered any error codes while the unit was demonstrating previously described behavior. The tech did observe the unit heating well over 500 degrees when the presenting was on 350 degrees. Contacted Whirlpool Corporate Safety for an expedited replacement and was advised they wanted to repair the item but they could not provide an estimated date the major components would be available. Their plan was for my family to keep the life threatening unit indefinitely during a pandemic. Whirlpool Corporate’s alternative plan was a repurchase of a new unit that would take significantly longer than sending a new unit. I attempted to escalate the matter and was promised a return call within 72 hours. Someone called a week later and indulged in a game of phone tag; refused to leave a message and a return number and was unavailable when a member of their call center tried to reach the individual on my behalf. Ultimately, I never spoke to anyone. In the end, my JennAir authorized dealer acknowledged the risks to my family relative to bodily injury and loss of life due to the latent defects with the unit; the unit was removed, a loaner was provided, and a new unit was provided within a week. Whirlpool represents itself as a luxury brand via JennAir but they fall well short of the mark. From a customer service perspective, they chose maintaining margins on a unit basis over customer safety, particularly during a pandemic.
